Haunting, intimate, alluring and playful– Yeni Nostalji takes listeners on a romantic journey through nostalgia, the transient nature of self discovery, and the powerful demands of love.

Front-woman Christina Marie, an American of European and Lebanese descent, writes her songs in Turkish. She considers Turkey to be her second home, and began Yeni Nostalji in 2014 with a famous Turkish baker by singing songs around his kitchen table in Richmond, Virginia. Christina Marie cites her songwriting influences as “Leonard Cohen, Morrissey, and Dolly Parton” but is heavily influenced by the vintage soundscape of Turkish and European pop radio from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. Moldovan-born guitarist and composer Vlad Cuiujuclu, who infuses the songs with an Eastern European influence, and percussionist/back up vocalist Rei Alvarez (of salsa band Bio Ritmo and Puerto Rican Bolero group Miramar)– are perfect puzzle pieces fitting into the unique music that Yeni Nostalji is bringing to America.

The band is set to release their first full-length original record in 2017, which features string players from the Richmond Symphony, and horn players from NO BS! Brass and Bio Ritmo, with arrangements by Gary Kalar (Mucca Pazza) and Marlysse Simmons (Miramar, Bio Ritmo).
